A Step-By-Step Guide to Verify PayPal Account with Smart Money
96NOTE: Although some visitors report that Smart Money is being rejected when linked as a credit card to verify PayPal account, a few others report otherwise.
To be on the safe side, I suggest that only those who currently have Smart Money card use the procedure outlined below.
I don't recommend applying for Smart Money card for the sole purpose of getting a verified PayPal account. Should you need to apply for a credit or debit card, choose Visa Electron instead.

For Filipinos, especially those who work online, getting verified in PayPal is one of the most satisfying experiences they can have. At present, PayPal is the only e-commerce business allowing payments and money transfers to be made to the Philippines.
Today, new online workers are so privileged to have been provided with lots of information in this regard. And this one is surely one of them.
For those who have decided to get a Smart Money card, the following information will guide you from applying for Smart Money to verifying PayPal account.
Applying for Smart Money
1. Use A New SIM Card
If you will use an old SIM (as I did before), chances are you might be assigned an old Smart Money card number. This is because your card number is generated based on your SIM card number, hence unique.
To get verified in PayPal, Internet Transaction in the Smart Money menu of your cell phone must be unlocked first. However, only Smart Money Card numbers beginning with 5299-67 are allowed to purchase online.
In my case, I was given a card number starting with 5577, making my card, time and effort useless and wasted. This is the reason why this blog is written. So I decided then to look for another card, not Smart Money. My brother's PayPal account was verified using Smart Money.
Interestingly, Smart Money allows each person to have a maximum of two cards bearing the same name.
2. Don’t Forget Your W-PIN
Don’t ever overlook the W-PIN you have chosen to generate your card number. Your ATM/card PIN, by default, is the same as your W-PIN and is automatically updated after setting up your W-PIN.
The processing time for your card of two weeks proves to be long enough to make you forget your W-PIN, so it’s a good idea to write it down in a notebook safe from others.
3. Activate Your Card Immediately
For card activation, call 15177 using your cell phone. After being connected, follow the voice prompts or simply do the following:
“Welcome to Smart 24-hour calling service.”
- To continue in English, press 1.
- For Smart Money products and services, press 2.
- For Smart Money card application or activation, press 1.
- To activate your personalized Smart Money card, press 2.
- Enter your 16-digit card number and press the pound (#) key.
From here on, be patient and provide the information asked by the representative. Follow instructions very carefully.
If the process is successful, the representative should tell you that it takes 15 minutes before your card becomes ready for use.
To be sure, after 15 minutes or so, perform these steps:
- Go to your Smart Money menu
- Choose Activate Card
- Enter your 16-digit card number
- Name your card
- Press OK next
- Enter your W-PIN
- Wait for a short while until your phone “blinks”
- Enter your ATM/card PIN
You will receive a text message from Smart Money indicating your card number. You’re done! Check further by doing the steps below:
- Go to your Smart Money menu
- Choose Balance
You will see there are already two options available: MySmartMoney and the name of your card. Finish!
Steps on How to Verify PayPal Account with Smart Money
1. Load your card with at least Php200 via BDO.
This the better option than loading through a Smart Wireless Center, which requires a minimum amount of Php500. Carry out this process:
- Proceed to a local BDO branch.
- Fill-up the orange form named Payment Slip.
- Queue as it should be.
- Submit the slip, money, and your card to the teller.
Confirm whether the money is already in your card in this manner:
- Go to your Smart Money menu
- Choose Balance
- Select MySmartMoney
- Enter your W-PIN
You will receive a text message notifying you of your available balance. You’re done!
2. Have at least Php15 airtime load on your cell phone. (You only have to unlock twice, which charges Php2.5 per unlock. So, you just expend Php5 from your load. Your Smart Money automatically locks itself after a short while.)
Note: It is not necessary to link your card to your phone as suggested otherwise by Smart Hotline representatives.
Actual PayPal Verification Procedure
1. In PayPal:
- Log into your account
- Click Get Verified (just below your name)
- Enter all required information, including your first name, card type (choose Mastercard), card number, expiry date, and security code (3-digit code found at the back of your card)
2. On your cell phone:
- Go to Smart Money menu
- Choose Internet Txns
- Select Unlock
- Pick MySmartMoney
- Enter your W-PIN
- Press YES
One dollar will be deducted from your Smart Money.
3. On PayPal, click the Continue button immediately and the OK in the next page.
4. A message will be displayed that PayPal cannot verify your card.
5. Repeat Step #2.
6. A four-digit code will be sent to your phone via text message after some time.
7. Enter the four-digit code to your PayPal account.
8. You are now verified!
The two dollars deducted from your Smart Money will be added to your PayPal balance. This refund may take from 24 to 48 hours.

What is the name of the bank in filling up "name of bank" when verifying paypal account using smart money?
Hello, Cena. Upon reviewing, I found out there is no option for supplying "name of bank" when verifying your paypal account. Only five information are needed: first name, card type, card number, expiry date of your card, and security code. Hope this helps.

Sadly, we can't withdraw money from paypal to smart money. It is for verification alone. Once you are verified, I suggest you apply for Landbank's savings account with ATM access. However, from the comments above, others have verified their PayPal accounts using this method. My brother's PayPal account too was verified using Smart Money. Hello. The expiry date of your card is 04/13, or April 2013. So you can use your card before that, from April 2011 - exactly two years. Your question must be mistaken.

Hi, Kami. With your questions, my best answer is that you should call Smart Communications directly thru their Hotline Customer Service 15177. Then, address your concern with them. Note, however, that their representative would probably tell you that you cannot use Smart Money for PayPal verification. I've heard this a number of times. To be safe, just don't mention this purpose to them.
as of may 2011, paypal and/or cmart have changed their procedures.
Questions:
1. What if my name has an extension of Jr.? Do you any idea on how to handle a verification in that case? My paypal account have this format Vince Retoza Jr. and my smart money card name is also the same but in my paypal my given name is Vince and Lastname/Surname is Retoza Jr. I am confuse on how to verify with an extension name. I want also to add my bank account but my name there is Vince Jr. Retoza.
2. Does smart money card can receive an amount transfer from paypal? Or can we withdraw paypal amount to smart money card?
Hello, luxurious04. There is an option in paypal to change your name before linking your card. I suggest changing your name in Paypal. And do not include the extension (Jr.). For your bank account, I don't think there is some problem because names are written that way by default.
For your second question, it is not possible to withdraw money from paypal to smart money. That's it.

Hello, Jan. I'd like to make it clear that what's important is whoever owns the card because anyone can create his or her own paypal account anytime. The question is somewhat confusing. So, I am asking you, "Whose name is on the card?" I think you are the one who has a smart money card. Therefore, it cannot be used to verify your brother's paypal account.
I want to give you a good idea. Just create your own PayPal account, then verify it using your smart money card. If your brother's paypal account has any balance, the balance can be sent to your paypal account free of charge. Then, you can withdraw your money when it reaches the threshold of Php500. You can use this method until reaching an accumulated sent money of Php24,000. Good luck.
So, I will change my name in my paypal account I will not include the Jr. and verify it by using my smart money card. Have you tried it? My smart money card has the Jr. It will not conflict? To give you an idea, the more difficult part is linking your card to paypal to get verified, not linking your bank account. Unfortunately, I have not tried what you have asked. So, I just suggest that you do try it. Actually, my PayPal account do not have the extension Jr. when I signed up. As long as you get verified in PayPal, linking your bank account is as easy as one, two, three. Don't be afraid to try. I have tried several times before, doing hit and miss, but ultimately I found the way.

Yes I will help others too. I have read an article and one of the commentators or viewers said that paypal funds can be withdraw to smart money card but it will take 3-4 days or even 7 business days and it will be deducted 200 pesos maybe that is BDO transactions.
Hello, luxurious04. I don't recommend this method to you because of the huge deduction (Php200) per withdrawal. For me, using UnionBank's Visa Electron is the most practical option. This is because you can withdraw free of charge--there is no electronic fund transfer fee from PayPal to Bank. Only Php50 is deducted by PayPal for every withdrawal transaction not reaching Php7,000.
Yeah your right but I am now staying in Dipolog City and there is no Union Bank here. The nearest Union Bank branch is in Ozamiz City, Iligan City and Zamboanga City. A lot said that we can apply online but we still need to go to the nearest branch to pick up if it is ready. just activated my card but couldn't verify still. called up the cs hotline and this is what they told me "im sorry for the inconvenience but paypal verification isn't available through smart money anymore". Smart Com. has put on hold paypal linking cos there were problems. can anybody verify this? what a waste on the airtime load all the while i thought verification was possible!

If you have become a verified PayPal member and you want to withdraw your money from PayPal, I don't suggest using BDO because your money will be deducted P150 in addition to the P50 charge by PayPal for withdrawal transactions below P7,000. Use instead Land Bank's savings account. It will deduct only P100. Still, the best is Unionbank's Visa Electron, which does not deduct any amount at all.

I checked PayPal just a while ago and saw the charge is twice as much as transferring money from PayPal to a bank account. To be on the safe side, I suggest using a bank account. Linking a bank account is as easy as ABC. Another option is to transfer your money from your PayPal account to another PayPal account whose owner is someone you can trust.
